Welcome to our annual Chalk Bluff winter camping trip-- 2015*.
Chalk Bluff is a large park located in Uvalde, TX. It has many fun amenities, but we spend most of our time drinking, playing games, getting wet, hiking, eating, and relaxing!! The trip is kid friendly.
This year's weekend falls on FRIDAY, JANUARY 1ST. We stay Friday night, party all day Saturday, and then pack up and head home first thing Sunday morning.
The cost per person is approximately $52. This covers cabin rental for both nights plus a $1 charge for firewood being provided. Campers are fully in charge of their own food.
*The $52 is calculated as an equal division amongst campers for total cabin cost (plus tax) plus $1 for two nights of firewood. The price may drop or increase a couple bucks to account for exact camper numbers after sign up cut-off. Families are responsible for their own food the entire weekend.
AGE: All ages are welcome to attend our trip. Adult games, such as poker and beer pong, are played after-hours. In regards to payment, the rule we go by is all campers ages 7 and up are required to pay the full fee listed above. Campers younger than 7 are welcome to camp for free.
WHAT TO BRING: 1)Linens 2)Pillows 3)Bug Spray 4)Snacks 5)Warm Clothes 6)Hiking Clothes 7)Chairs 8)Ice Chests / Ice 9)Flashlight 10)Trashbags 11)Toilet Paper 12)Alcohol 13)Paper Towels 14)Cups / Plates / Cutlery
TRADITIONS & MEMORIES: The "welcome" group liquor shot, circle of death around the fire, Friday night pitch-black walk down to the river (leading to "penis time" once the girls return to camp), delicious food grilled by Russ on Friday, delicious breakfast served by Crystal Saturday morning, amazing dinner cooked by Crystal Saturday night (Crystal and Russ no longer provide whole group food regularly; we will miss that grub forever!), blow-up Santa and penguin, the three hour hike up the bluff, pictures and beers atop the bluff, washers-cornhole-horseshoes-bocci-ladder ball, strip softball, $5 poker, couples two-stepping on the middle cabin's patio, beer pong tournament, smores, the loudest games of flip cup ever, canoe baseball, group softball, campfire sing-alongs, Cabin Carne shares their meat, New Year's fireworks, Hexitron
Our winter camping tradition began with a very small group in 2007. The group stayed small in 2008, but in 2009, we moved from renting one cabin up to renting four. 2010 was the first year we had five cabins. 2011 was the legendary RAIN year where the precipitation never stopped. But we made the best of it. Upgraded cabins were first added in 2014 and there was a senior cabin for the first time in 2015. If you count every year from the beginning, we have been to Chalk Bluff for nine consecutive years now!

HOW DO YOU OFFICIALLY SIGN UP?!
You are an official camper once you sign up for your room. I have five cabins reserved. Each easily sleeps six people. All five cabins listed below are right next to each other and identical (tv, full kitchen, full bathroom, heater, etc.), so it doesn't matter too much which you sign up for. I wouldn't over-think who your roomies are; very little time is actually spent inside your cabin. To sign up, simply leave a comment on this blog with who exactly is signing up and what cabin you want. Do this by clicking "comments" below and select Name/URL from the profile dropbox (you don't need to input a URL). After reading your comment, I'll post your name(s) into the official document for everyone to see. Spots 5 and 6 are assigned the comfy bunk-beds, though there is plenty of room for a blow-up matress as well. Here are the cabins and current availability:

DIRECTIONS: Take Hwy. 90 towards Del Rio. In the center of Uvalde, take Hwy. 83 North towards Leakey. You will travel approximately 2 miles and go over an overpass on the north side of Uvalde that goes over the railroad tracks. At the bottom of the overpass, take a left turn onto Hwy. 55 North. Set your odometer and go exactly 15 miles to the park entrance on the left side of the road. A historical marker is located across the street from the entry gate.
Due to the time of year, it may be cold, but we have never had a bad experience. The nights are chilly but our fires are large =) If you have any questions/concerns, please ask.
